Magoki Attari is located in the center of the city, to the west of the Lyabi-Hauz ensemble. In early medieval times, this place was home to the Moh (Moon) Bazaar, and nearby was a cult center with a Moon temple. During the spring Navruz holiday, statuettes and images of folk deities were sold here. The Arabs, after conquering Bukhara, established one of the first mosques on the site of the Moon temple. Excavations inside the mosque revealed remnants of carved decor and foundations dating back to the 10th century. In 1930, the southern portal of the mosque from the 12th century, with unique brick ornaments and carved majolica, was discovered under a layer of soil. In the late medieval period, Magoki Attari served as a neighborhood mosque, with its entrance facing towards Lyabi-Hauz. (Khmelnitsky S. 1992, p. 80).
