Islamic architecture

The architectural structures that can be considered as an example of Islamic architecture include caravanserais located on trade routes and in large cities. An unusual example of such a structure is the Rabati Malik caravanserai (royal fortress) on the trade route between Samarkand and Bukhara, near the city of Kermine. Its ruins have come down to our time in the form of a facade with a portal and a side minaret connected by corrugated walls. Built at the beginning of XIV, as the palace of the Turkic rulers, in the following centuries it was transformed into a caravanserai and differs from typical caravanserais in expressive architectural forms. The type of four — pillar mosques with a central dome is a lonely one towering among the ruins of an ancient settlement near the village of Khazarа Bukhara region the building of the Deggaron mosque dating from the beginning of the 11 century. The monument is a cubic volume with a central dome on four round pillars. The side squares and rectangles between the central pillars and the walls of the Deggaron Mosque are covered with corner domes and longitudinal arches. The walls of the mosque are made of mud brick and slightly sloped to the top. The architecture of these early mosques reflected the transitional stage of the evolution of the open spatial composition introduced by the Arabs to the more familiar for local architecture — the central dome.
