Culture of dress in the Khiva khanate

In the northern regions of Khorezm, men’s and women’s coats were made of the same fabrics and in close-fitting shapes. Later, instead of women’s coats, they began to wear medium-length, narrow-shaped camisoles, which made them comfortable in working conditions. The jackets were mainly made of black velvet, and the linings were made of floral and embroidered chit fabrics. Older women’s jackets were also made of black velvet, but their lining was sewn from plain fabrics. Although the custom of wearing — a camisole came to the Khorezm oasis from the Kokand khanate, Khorezm women managed to give this dress a completely new look and color by decorating the camisole with colorful embroidery. The jackets were worn over shirts and waistcoats, and the long sleeves of the shirt were visible through the narrow-sleeved camisoles. In the Khiva khanate the rules of Sharia were always followed. Women wore scarves, and shawls to cover their faces when they went out to the streets and markets to do some work. The veils (paranji) of Khorezm women were similar to the veils of women in other khanates. The paranji was mainly made of green semi-silk fabric, and the lining was made of chit, satin fabrics. made of chit, satin fabrics. The neck of the paranji had a long shape, the false sleeves were sewn on the back at the waist with a special seam. Chachvon «chashibomd» was woven with a thread made of cotton fibers, the fibers of the horse’s bridle were added and were air permeable.
