Stone amulet in the form of two snakes. 2nd millennium BC. Soh. Uzbekistan

Among the masterpieces of ancient art is a find made at the end of the 19th century in the village of Sokh in the Fergana Valley. This is a composition of black stone in the form of two poisonous snakes facing each other with their heads. The stone is carefully polished, the pits on the bodies of the snakes have preserved traces of plaster, the eyes may have been inlaid with precious stones. We do not find analogies for the culture of this period with Central Asia, however, similar motifs at that time were known in the art of Mesopotamia and Iranian Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is possible that the sculptural composition is an import.
